Volume 1: Page 7
Happy New Year Guys! Check out this weird liminal page update! It’s 2011 on the East Coast but not yet on the West. Weeiird. There wasn’t gonna be an update originally, but I managed to pump this one out in 24 hours, so that was nice.
Oh boy, look at that wall of text. In English no less! I must be spoiling you guys. Finally some info. If you didn’t get it through context, Smokewalk is basically a Nuru Bar Mitzvah, except it involves all the boys of the village at once in a certain age group and can last somewhere from a week up to a few months. It’s also where they get to learn that funky runic language you keep seeing pop up.
Finally updated the vote incentive too, so check that out. And enjoy your first update of the new year/last update of 2010!

Really cool. Can`t wait to see more.
Happy New Year
Thanks!
Whoa, love the vote incentive.?
Up close and personal with the mask wearing stick legged deer and….ram? O.o
:3
Hehe glad you like it. Yeah that goat ram thing..it is fluffy.
that ‘?’ is supposed to be a heart. >.o
THEY ARE SO MEAN TO TINY BALI. DDDD:
I am loving the little tidbits of culture info that are getting thrown in. Better than a long-winded exposition.
Happy New Year!
Awww, Bali is SO cute! I love his little feet the best.
Just discovered this today through a chance re-visiting of Gunnerkrigg Court. I like it!
heeey, I also got here through GC. Advertising win!
Oh man yes! I love it when advertising actually works XD
Excellent comic!
Thanks!
Hi, Scott McCloud just linked to this comic on Twitter and that’s how I found it. I love it so far…
Is that poor boy really walking barefoot in the snow ?
Thanks! I’m glad you’re enjoying it.
Don’t worry about Bali, he’s got tougher feet than you’d think!
I found this from Scott McCloud’s Twitter, too! I’m enjoying it so far. I really like the style, especially in the myth sections. It strongly reminds me of Pacific Northwest native art, especially the use of the U shapes.
Thanks! The art of the Pacific Northwest was a huge inspiration for this comic, so I’m glad it shows though.
I’m here via Scott McCloud too - beautiful story so far (and as an anthro grad I’m loving what you’re doing with liminal spaces, heheh)
Can’t wait to see more.
Thank you! It’s awesome to find someone who knows about liminality, I’m completely intrigued by the whole idea.
Oh-poor-Bali-this-breaks-my-heart!
In a good way.
p.s. Love the “nother”
Hey!! Awesome comic! LOVE it! I got here through Cealdian. Does this mean you won’t be updating it anymore?? Cuz that would very sad, even if this new one rocks too!!
Don’t worry, I still have plans to work on Cealdian.
I found you through TWC by way of “Supernormal Step”. Bookmarked!
Glad you like what you see!
Ohh, I just realized you’re the one who does Celdian
Found this through an ad on TWC, I think.
Anyway, this looks fantastic so far; looking forward to more!
Yep, that’s me! Glad you found your way here!
omygosh that is the cutest little guy I ever did see!!! *Squeeee* please update soon!
He is pretty adorkable, isn’t he? Glad you like!
I just noticed that Bali’s mask/headdress is the same size as the hunters’ masks. Do the kids of the tribe have to learn to grow into those things?
Plus, it seems you’ll have to get used to saying “Yes, he’s barefoot in the snow.” to everyone new to the comic, hehehe!
Sort-of-yes? All of the other kids in the tribe are somewhat larger and burly, so the fit isn’t quite as off as it is with Bali’s. But there is a big emphasis placed on growing up and being an adult in the culture.
I like how being barefoot in the snow is what people consider the least plausible part of the comic XD
