Volume 1: Page 20
Hey guys! The next page will be up next week! Thanks for your patience!
Next time Lakasi tells you to stay out of the woods, probably you should listen. Tsk!
Remember when I updated the comic for the very first time back in October and I mentioned that the short comic that was going to be the start of Bird Boy became a little vignette about hunting a bear instead? Well the bear sort of stuck around for this comic too.
I have a bear thing. A thing for bears. Not real bears though, just bears with nib faces.
Enjoy!

Oh no, Bali! D: Run! Geeze what a big bear, I would be terrified.
And as terrified as I am for little Bali, I still love your creature designs.
What a time to fall again.
Based on a sloth bear?
I just read through Bird Boy, and I must say I’m both impressed and intrigued! :O This is truly an amazing graphic novel that really stands out, I’m an instant fan!
i’m giving up on cealdian. you’re clearly not going back to it. if you were, you’d be trying harder to get the site back up for those of us that still want to read it.
The site is in progress, but since it’s an extra 16-20 project and not the highest on my list of priorities right now, it’ll be a while before it makes an appearance. Meanwhile, the entire collection of Cealdian pages has always been available at http://nhaar.deviantart.com/ to read and will continue to be there up till and throughout the existence of the new site.
can you give us some idea of when you plan to go back to that comic? originally you said january, i think. george r.r. martin has put us off for years - martin you’re not, but he did update his blog. cealdian could be finished with a published short story, as well, if you don’t intend to go back to it. this is a nicer way to wrap things up than leaving them where they lay….colby purcell always writes a novella for that book writing month. take the challenge!
Thank you guys for being very devoted Cealdian fans. However, posting on the Bird Boy comments saying that I’m not trying hard enough or not doing a good enough job or not working on the right thing or the thing you want, after spending all night working on these pages, and all day at work and trying to take care of my health is very upsetting to me.
Cealdian is on hiatus. It will come back when I am ready to pursue it again.
We like your projects, and would be overjoyed if you could produce enough to keep us busy consuming new material every day. Which would be ridiculous to expect, so let the ridiculous neediness flow past you and hold on to the appreciation. If I had a pre-paid contract with you to provide new material on an agreed-upon schedule, and you didn’t meet the terms of the contract, then I might have cause to whine a little. As it is, I’m perfectly happy to see and enjoy updates whenever they occur, and to vote for you on TWC when I pass through. Keep your spirits up!
People who want to complain about update schedules should take a whack at maintaining a full colour comic of their own, first.
Personally I think you’re doing the right thing by going with quality over quantity - you always submit gorgeous pages rather than crapping out and posting half-assed work! Creativity takes time and sometimes ideas just don’t want to be sorted through right now. I think Cealdian will be all the better for the break when you get back to it, rather than forcing it
Congratulations on the Comic-con scholarship! Well-deserved I’d say as these pages are just nothing short of professional and polished. I adore the little boy’s chubby design and the opening sequence is lovely! Looking forward to more installments. : D Cheers!
Annie, I am a relatively new fan of your graphic novel “Birdboy”, and wish to encourage you further in this endeavor. Your character designs, layouts, palette, and storytelling are consistently satisfying week after week, and ALWAYS a wonderful addition to my life, as well as inspiring in my own endeavor at crafting my own strip, a work in progress. Please know that what you’ve created is incredibly special, and your place in the pantheon of Artists is well earned. I look forward to purchasing this work when you deem it ready for publication in a hard cover format.
Heya, doll-face. You probably don’t remember me. I was the dirty-blonde-haired guy who was talking to you about the interview at San Diego Comic Con. Anyway, I went through the comic here, and totally dug it.I’ll be reviewing this work on http://www.atomic.moo.
Keep bein’ awesome!
*scratches head*
Sorry, that’s http://www.atomicmoo.com. Personally, I blame the booze.
I’ve absolutely adored this series since the first page and I look forward to the next update!
d’aww. what a strangely adorable scary bear thing.
I gotta admit I had totally lost track of this comic until i found a link on the internet today & boy, I have to saw it’s beautifully illustrated! Please keep up the Awesome work!
Must…Hold….On for more comics…..but WHEN…….
tight artwork, just found this on ink outbreak cant wait to see more.
sooo…I’m guessing we’re on hiatus?
I know it’s been ages and you probably won’t read this, but I love your masked beasts. It’s such a simple and elegant design element; just enough to give your creatures a somewhat mythical atmosphere.
The style feels similar to Herge’s TinTin comics I am loving it so far and Bali is so Cute! If a little too curious
