please tell us when you’re planning a comeback for cealdian? just what you think might be the plan is better than no answer at all. you haven’t answered in the comments on that site and it would be so much nicer than checking back all the time for no reason.
yes. this is why people came to hate the creator of undertow. it’s a beautiful comic and i like the story too, but she hasn’t updated since last august and last year she updated maybe twice. i would be ok with all of that, as would other readers, if she just popped in to say, this comic is on hiatus for the next year. ‘i have added an rss feed so you can find out when i’m updating again.” or put your email address here and i’ll email you when i’m updating again.’ some token of respect that she realizes we are alive and human beings. but the undertow creator ignores the posts to her guestbook and sometimes deletes the comments, even polite ones, asking when she’ll resume updates. after 2 years of no word or hint of what’s going on!
annie’s last post there states she’ll resume updates early this year, which to me implies january. since march is flying by and will soon be a memory, i think a new post is warranted. i adore her artwork, like the stories so far, and do and will support creators i admire by buying their stuff. but respect must go two ways. i’d hate to see cealdian go the way of undertow, where readers won’t support her no matter how good her stuff is. so simple to rectify - just let us know. we are people too.
I understand how frustrating it can be, it’s frustrating to me too! Sometimes it’s difficult just writing an update, because we as creators don’t WANT to have to say we can’t work on something because of scheduling or health or family problems or even because we’ve simply grown out of it and can’t find it in our hearts anymore. I don’t know what’s going on with Undertow’s creator, but I can understand the frustration of trying to get a page out, going through the guilt of not being able to, and then having to relive that guilt every time someone asks about new pages (which, in the case of more popular comics, can be several times a day). Understand that that many questions about the same thing, even asked politely, can feel like an attack to a creator who is already feeling bad about it and cannot do anything about it in their situation, whatever that might be.
As it is for Cealdian, there has always been a working RSS, and the most up to date information on updates for all my projects can be found on my twitter. I don’t always have the time to go through every comment and explain to each one what’s going on in my life that I can’t update at that moment, nor do I always feel like that’s appropriate. However, because I have been asked so many times, I have added a new news post to Cealdian which will hopefully give some explanation as to what’s been going on, and when you might expect new updates.
yeah, no. i was EXTREMELY fond of aether, an awesome fantasy webcomic which discontinued AND was taken offline by its creator, after she lost heart/interest. so many fantasy webcomics have been permanently discontinued mid-story, that to drag out the announcement of such is cruel & unusual to the readers. i like your art, but your response shows your age.
thanks for posting an update about cealdian. next time, don’t wait until people are angry at you before you do that. you don’t need to answer our individual comments, but six months into a hiatus, you do need to post something to your readers, so they know you haven’t lost heart, we haven’t wasted our time, interest, care and concern, and that this is not going to be another one on the list of comics like aether or talisman. don’t you know your readers LOVE YOU and want only to make you feel good and appreciated? we are just grateful for your efforts to entertain us. so if your readers are actually angry, there is probably a good reason. like i said, this relationship works TWO ways and i’m glad that not EVERYONE is a sycophant. the person who’s perfected the communication with his readers? doug tenapel. check out ratfist and see what i mean.

I’m delayed a bit because my company is moving and I with it! There’s a lot going on to get ready, including packing up my workstation into some big boxes D: Things are a little hectic right now, but there’ll be a page this Friday the 8th for sure.

There is a new note up on the Cealdian website concerning updates. But please don’t feel like you have to check everyday if you don’t want to! There is an RSS for Cealdian and I’ll always post updates on my twitter feed as well.
