Masks abound! Turns out a page like this takes at least three times as long to make as one of the stone pages, so that’s why I’m a little late. Sorry about that, but at least the page is here now! And now I have a bit of a better idea as to how long one of these will take.
And finally a glimpse of some of our characters. That’s Bali, with the armfull of spears. And the hunters: Chega, Lakasi, Tilo, and Bas from left to right.
Enjoy the page! Next week is Thanksgiving in America…so that either means I will have lots of time for pages or no time for pages…uh…But I usually update my progress on my twitter, so if you’re ever wondering about updates that’s a good place to look.

Uagh curly toes! Man I am so excited. I love how these panels really highlight how small Bali is compared to his surroundings and comrades and even his job of carrying spears. Also digging the subtle textures used throughout. However I can’t help but wonder how effective they are at hunting when they have bells tied to their spears. >_> Unless they’re ceremonial or something.
Haha right? XD They manage to make it work, though. The bells actually make the spears more effective >__>
This is well worth the wait. I love how the snow piles up around him as he plows through. I can imagine him thinking “I’ll catch 4 times as much as everyone else ’cause I have 4 spears!”
That, and the fact he goes /over/ the log instead of around it. XD
Maybe their bells are wooden so they make no ringing sound? xD Lol, probably not.
This is so super adorbs. <33
Nope, they are pretty loud XD But they quiet them down once they actually find something to go after.
Ohh, I see. How to quiet down bells… I guess they’re either magical, or the hunters detach the ringing part inside, or stuff something in the bells to block them? *thinks hard*
I have a gratuitous amount of bells attached to everything in my room~ BD *makes a ton of noise when getting out of bed at night*
C: I found your art through Alexds1′s sketch commissions. I saw Bali and thought “Oh who is this adorable kid I have to find out.” And then I checked the artist comment, and found your page. I am glad I did! You look like you’ve got something wonderful on hand here, and I look forward to seeing more!
Both on the site and non-comic related work on dA.
Also seeing Bali walk in snow barefoot is making me cringe. My first thought was “D: Child, please don’t get frostbite.”
But yes, this is definitely going on my list of comics I check daily. Haha!
Well thank you! Der-shing’s work is lovely, I’m glad it brought some traffic my way!
Yeah, every time I have to draw snow, I get the shivers. I had to put on a big pair of fuzzy socks on while drawing Bali’s frozen toes XD
Anyways, I’m glad you like what you see, I’ll do my best to keep it up!
Haha, I love snow. Every time we get first snow of the year, my little siblings and I run outside across the yard barefoot through the snow. We may be a little insane, but I suppose we love the snow enough to do that. But I know after doing that, I’m hopping around inside the house for a few minutes trying to warm my feet up. How Bali stands it, I don’t know.
Also, I really couldn’t resist drawing Bali. I’ve sketched him up, and would link it in this comment if I knew how to use HTML coding correctly, pff. But I suppose I can just email it to you. : )
Poor kid, the designated pack-mule!
I’ve heard (pun?) of bells and rattles carried by Alaskan hikers to avoid startling bears in the woods (punned again??)
It amazes me at how vibrant and original your cultures are. I’m even more blown away by the fact that you work on two entirely different cultures (Cealdian and this one) without mixing.
Well done.
Well thankee! Though I think if you look closely they do mix a little XD There’s a good chunk of viking in both of them, at least
I thoroughly enjoy this comic. Your work is truly splendid!
