A lot of people have been asking “hey, are you going to make the whole comic in that style with the painted rock art?”
Well, this page will make that clear for you! First page of the actual ‘present’ storyline. But this is not the last you have heard of Mali Mani, let me tell you! He is kind of a big deal.
News! First off, there’s new art in the art section! Not fanart per se, but a commission by the lovely Dershing Helmer, creator of The Meek. Be sure to check that out because it is awesome!
Secondly, nominations for The 2010 Webcomic List Awards are now open! If you are at all involved in any aspect of comic production, you’re eligible to nominate some of your favorite webcomics! Nominations are open through December 20. Sooo if there’s a certain (cough) webcomic out there that’s (cough hack) just started and you (cough cough) wanted to show some support (cough hack cough)…..XD
That’s all for tonight. As always, thanks for reading and enjoy! Next week we might even catch a glimpse of the main character or something…

I think I got hooked just on the cover alone. He’s a kid, and he might be in over his head, but he still looks like he’s having fun. But how does he prevent frostbite with those bare feet?
Glad you like it! Haha, yes Bali is certainly in for some trouble. XD
As for the frostbite: super tough footpads? His people are certainly used to the cold, at least.
FEET. I’m curious to see how the rest of the pages will be colored. That last panel has a nice cel-shady kind of feel to it.
Just the first of hundreds of pages that will feature feet. You’ll be sick of them by the end!
The PLAN is to color the pages in the same way the cover is colored. The cel-shady is an exercise in restraint: I’m so used to rendering things to death and wanted the emphasis to be on the story more than the wow factor of fancy rim lighting and such. But it’s certainly a step away from my comfort zone so we’ll see!
This comic looks fantastic! Can’t wait for more. I can’t believe you are doing two comics at once… And such high quality ones too!
Thanks! Haha, unfortunately the price for doing two comics is the super irregular posting schedule, though.
I am very excited for this!!!
BTW: might I suggest you have a more conspicuous link somewhere on your homepages for the other comic (ie: a link to bird-boy from cealdian, and the other way around)? I think it would be to your advantage to let other people go from one to the other very easily. For example, if Shortpacked! hadn’t linked directly to Joyce and Walky from its homepage, I would never have discovered that the author had more comics!
Just a thought. <3
This is true! I need to do this. I’m still working on the website, and every new link needs a new button or graphic made and I am the laziest. But I do need to do that.
first panel is so insanely beautiful it would be awesome as a poster! makes me feel like i’m tripping. surreal. i also love the story - you are brilliant, woman!
Glad ye like it! The comic is going to get muuuch more surreal as it goes on
I happened to glance at the banner for this comic on Top Web Comics, and that alone brought me here! It seems amazing so far (kind of reminds me of Avatar the Last Airbender), so I’m really excited to see where your story takes me. The irregular schedule DOES suck though. Oh well-perheps I’ll check out your other comic? x]
Hah, I’m glad you decided to check it out! Unfortuately, lately Cealdian’s updating schedule is even more irregular than this one, but hopefully it’ll all mellow out in time :\
