FAQ
“When does the comic update?”
Fridays! Or, well, Fridays are a good bet. I try to get a page out each week, but sometimes I have to update biweekly because of my schedule. If I finish a page off schedule, I prefer posting it early rather than waiting for the next Friday, so sometimes updates are weird. My twitter is the best place to look for info on when the next page will be up.
“Is it safe for my son/daughter/grandparents/mother/boss/ward to read this comic? Will there be violence?”
While there may be some scary imagery, Bird Boy is intended for an all ages audience and will not contain any extreme language, nudity or gore.
“Is there a published version I can buy?”
Once the first volume is finished, it will go into print! You will be able to buy it in the store. Details will be available once I get closer to finishing it.
“How do you make the comic? How long does it take?”
The comic is made exclusively on the computer in Photoshop CS5 with a Wacom Cintiq tablet. I plan out several pages of thumbnails in advance, then create rough layout pages, then work up the final in line and then flat color.
It usually takes about 8-10 hours to do a single page from start to finish, over the course of several nights.
“What about a script?”
I have an outlined story written up, but not a full script. I tend to write my dialog AS I thumbnail, so that image and word will be linked more cohesively. This is a different way of working for me than my last comic projects (I used to write out a script from start to finish well in advance.) and so it’s a little experimental, but I have high hopes for it.
“Will you do a commission/art trade/request for me?”
I’m sorry, but I can’t take commissions at this time. I work a full time job and then come home and work on comics. It’s not that I don’t want to, it’s simply that I don’t have the time!
“I’m a comic writer looking for an artist! Will you work on a project with me?”
Again, sorry, no! For the same reasons, but also because I have about ten thousand different comic stories in my head already and I really prefer doing my own writing.
“Will you take a look at my comic/portfolio/website? Will you link to it?”
I read a lot of comics, and I love discovering new ones! So if you want to shoot me a link to your latest masterpiece, I’d love to see it! I cannot promise that I’ll link to it, but I will read it and let you know what I think if you want.
“Why is Bali wearing a Kwakiutl/Haida/Tlingit/Raven/Eagle/Inuit mask? Why is he blonde? Why does he have a viking sword? Why are they all barefoot in the snow?!”
Because I said so! Just…just read the story ;___;
