In which Bali throws a tantrum!
Wow, guys, that delay between pages went much longer than I’d like. I’m sorry about that, I do try to get a page out at least every other week at least. That being said, this was a very specific situation that needed to be resolved before I could get back to comicking.
Those of you who follow along on my twitter know about my very challenging month. For those that don’t, I will try to sum it up! Basically the company I worked for imploded over the period of a couple weeks, and all 400 of it’s employees were very suddenly laid off and lacking in paychecks and insurance and the like. It was very sudden and very much a surprise and very very public (we are STILL getting hounded by reporters, several weeks later!), and I’ve since been scrambling to pick up the pieces of my life and trying to glue them back together into something else? The TLDR version is, I’m no longer working at 38 Studios. The last couple of weeks have been devoted to art tests and interviews in my quest to find a new job, which is why I’ve been a little bit scarce.
The good news from all of this: I’ve just today accepted a concept art position at Harmonix Music Systems in Cambridge, MA where I will be working on a mysterious and exciting new project! It’ll be nice to get back to work after my surprise summer vacation! -___-;
Anyways, enjoy the new page. It’s so nice to be comicking again.

Yeah, mass layoffs are always rough. The comic is splendid, however! As always, take your time. Mama’s gotta eat, after all.
I have missed eating :d
See, and that made me want to mail you a sandwich. Shame that I gave away the rest of my 4th of July betrunken bratwurst.
YAY ANNIE!
So excited for you, lady! Glad you landed on your feet already
Me tooo *flails*
Probably not Schillings fault but mismanaged into a hole by others. The whole deal sounds a bit fishy. Been following your wonderful comic since I discovered it. Glad you found another opportunity. Hey, Boston is close as well as Harvard. Great food and stuff there. Much more fun than RI. Venture into Harvard’s Peabody Museum for some artistic inspiration if you have never been there.
Yeah, I’m not to sure what happened either D: I’ve been bouncing between Boston and Providence for a while actually, so I’m pretty familiar with em both. Someday I’m gonna go really crazy and move to Connecticut or something.
I’m glad you got out of a bad situation all right; don’t sweat about a delay when your personal life needs tending to.
I love this new page! I really like the way you do the masks as another extension of the characters–Lakasi’s mask is always grimacing and always stays where it is, whereas with Bali his mask is always moving around and is cute in a wide-eyed way, that kind of thing. It’s hard to have people empathize with masked characters, but you’ve made it easy
Question, though–are Lakasi and Inanni Bali’s parents? I thought so, but Bali calls him by his first name (unless that’s normal in this culture.)
Nope, not his parents! Inanni raised him though. And Lakasi is the head of the tribe so it’s his job to act like everyone’s dad :d
Congratulations again on your new position Anne! The comic looks beautiful, as always, and I know there will be a lot of new readers from Irrational, because they really loved your stuff too!
Awesome! Glad everyone’s enjoying it over there
Welcome to Cambridge, new neighbor!
Sorry to hear about the job layoff, but happy to hear that things are looking up! Great page, as always!
Thank ye! Yes, Cambridge is not a bad place to be! Much easier than moving across the country, at least
Congrats on getting a new job quickly!
I’ve worked for a games company that went belly up before; it’s no fun putting hard work into a project that goes nowhere. I hope your new one see’s the light of day in due time.
Oof, you hit the nail on the head: I never dreamed we’d have to give up on it before it was even finished! And it was really a great looking product, too. :d
I can’t drop a story with such an intriguing plot, character and such wonderful art. It would be a crime.
Glad you think so! Thanks for sticking around
Congrats on your new job. Job hunting is something I would wish on no one.
Bali, I don’t think clinging to Mommy’s skirts will impress Lakasi.
Luckily a lot of game companies heard about the news and contacted us pretty quickly about open positions, which made the job hunt a lot less scary.
Oh yay the story continues
And what a diffiult situation for you! I am glad you found something new fairly quickly. Fingers crossed for the future!
I am glad as well! Thank you
Oh no! Sorry that you had to go through that! Why is it that every company I hear of that has this happen, is in the creative industry? We had an epic meltdown happen here at an animation studio, where the company literally closed its doors to employees in the morning, hardly allowing them to get their stuff out. Boom. I always wonder what goes on in employers’ heads who do that. D:
BUT ANYWAY, yay for a new job, yay for a new page, yay that you’re back.
I heard a lot of stories very similar to that from my coworkers, but we’d always go “well that’ll never happen here!” Go figure! :\
Whoops! I notice that Bali ran right across the center circle thing. Bad form, Bali!
(See, I’m paying attention.
)
Hehe well you are the first to point it out! Yeah Bali that didn’t help your case much :d
Bali,no running across intricately carved ground circles!
Congratulations on finding a job though it’s,good to know your not going to starve and die.
Hah! I am very glad I am not going to starve and die as well
… Did Bali just run across the floor circle?!
See Cece’s comment a little way above yours!
ffff your comic is excellent so farrrr
glad to hear you got a new job :>
hope it goes well!!
When (definitely!) this comic truly becomes known, so will the fact that Bali pretty much falls over in every other update. And don’t let him stop!
